Bringing up kids, there are so many milestones. There are some that really is a step function, ones when you realize something dramatically has changed around you.

This was one such moment for me.

There are milestones and then there are Milestones!

Just yesterday he turned around and stood up,

he toddled and then walked free,

the anxious wait as he went from diapers to potty,

a tinge of sadness in buckets of joy

when he ran off to Pee, diaper free

his little legs cycling around on training wheels,

suddenly he balanced

and turned around smiling carefree

he shot the ball and caressed the piano

he beat the drums and strung the guitar

tongue sweetly rolling sari-gama-pada-ni

moments of pride for mom and me

the wheels of time spinning

middle school brings a new beginning

friends, girls and girl friends

chats and messages flow free

suddenly he is a teen

the wheels spin faster

SATs and APs he said

freshman sophomore were a blur

and then the junior prom

a milestone among many

but today was THE Milestone

somehow the car and driver

came together as the

DMV said he was free
